Proudly one of our long standing clients: The Oyster Box Hotel, in Durban, recently won top spot in the Travel and Leisure World’s Best Awards. Yet another award to be added to the mantle of the South African hospitality industry proving that our industry is one of the best in the world. This good news was announced on the 8th July 2020 and couldn’t have come at a better time to lift the spirits within the industry currently weathered by COVID.
Readers of the prestigious international travel magazine voted the hotel into first place in the award’s Top 5 Africa Resort Hotels category. And the same awards placed The Oyster Box in 21st spot in a glittering list of the Top 100 Hotels in the World.
The awards, now in its 25th year, is based on a survey of readers who share their thoughts on their favourite hotels, islands, tour operators and more. The survey for the awards closed on March 2, shortly before Covid-19 halted leisure travel in much of the world.
Tyler Liebenberg, acting general manager of The Oyster Box, was delighted saying, “The Oyster Box is incredibly proud to be able to carry the flag for South Africa and Africa at this year’s award.”
It comes at a significant time for the owner, The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, which celebrates its own milestone in 2020, with 100 years in hospitality. With its roots firmly in South Africa, the group now encompasses 20 hotels worldwide including The Twelve Apostle’s Hotel in Cape Town and Bushman’s Kloof Wilderness Reserve in the Cederberg.
